Every morning, old Herr Becker rides a crowded bus and gives his seat to a young woman who reminds him of his daughter, Anna. People think he is simply a kind grandfather. But one day the woman stops coming — and Herr Becker keeps the seat empty, letting no one sit there. When a curious passenger finally asks why, he tells the truth: forty years ago he fought with Anna, she left, and he was too proud to say sorry. Then she died. He could never give her his love again. So each morning he gives his seat to a stranger and becomes, for a moment, the father he wanted to be. The empty seat is his quiet, daily “I’m sorry.”

Jeden Morgen fährt der alte Herr Becker mit einem vollen Bus. Er gibt sein Platz einer jungen Frau. Sie sieht aus wie seine Tochter Anna. Die Menschen denken: Er ist nur ein netter Großvater. Doch eines Tages kommt die Frau nicht mehr. Herr Becker hält den Platz für immer frei. Niemand darf dort sitzen. Als jemand fragt, warum, erzählt er die Wahrheit: Vor vierzig Jahren hatte er einen Streit mit Anna. Sie ging. Er war zu stolz und sagte nie “Es tut mir leid”. Dann starb sie. Nun gibt er jeden Morgen einem fremden Menschen seinen Platz. So wird er für einen Moment ein guter Vater. Der leere Platz ist sein leises, tägliches “Es tut mir leid”.
